Hello my name is Brian.
I like to tell stories in unexpected places.
I have more than a decade of experience in writing, graphic design and marketing. My drive to understand technology and digital media has also allowed me to practice my craft on many platforms. Much of my recent work has been concepting transmedia campaigns for brands such as Fiat, AMEX, and AllState.
Below are some recent projects that highlight my unique blend of skill sets.
Transmedia Storyteller / Creative Technologist
Wouldn’t it be great if there was an app that showed you all of the cool parties, bars and restaurants that you could be checking out tonight? Of course it would. But you know what would be even better? A social application that will lie and say you are already doing those things while you sit at home in your pajamas.
Part startup and part social-satire, CouchCachet was built in in 36 hours and thrust on the world in an effort to solve it’s ongoing Friday night dilemma. The app won the Mashery Global prize and enjoyed a media reach of more than 15 million, with press coverage in the New York Times, Buzzfeed.com, Mashable, ABCnews.com and many more.

The world has suffered a cataclysm, and the few who survived must now face the horrors of online dating. To add insult to injury these lonely hearts must avail themselves of FutureMate.us, the government’s online portal for finding your perfect match.
This fictional transmedia story was created as part of the first ever story hackathon, held by StoryCode in partnership with the Lincoln Film Center. Built in only 36 hours by a team of four, FutureMate won the competition by designing and executing a comprehensive storyworld that consisted of two websites, a short video, a site-specific art installation, a twitter persona, a mobile dating app and a 15 minute theatre piece. Press included coverage in forbes.com, washingtonpost.com, pbs.org and many more.
Game Design at New York Film Academy
I am the Narrative Design Instructor for NYFA’s new Game Design program. Created by Chris Swain (a man who literally wrote the book on game design), this program is a forward thinking comprehensive approach to the art and craft of creating interactive game experiences.
Stretch your legs because you are going on the run of a lifetime! You are Sheldon, winner of the famous ‘Tortoise and the Hare’ race. Unfortunately for you, the members of the Hare gang are not very good losers. Old Man Hare wants your golden trophy and will stop at nothing to get it. If you want to survive, you’ll have to run for it!
This ‘endless runner’ game (think Jetpack Joyride) is Beesquare’s debut iOS game. I was the sole writer on the project and was responsible for all game copy, narrative design and promotional marketing materials. The game launched in the #1 Position for Free Family Games in more than 30 countries.
ZOWN is an outdoor strategy game that is best described as ‘capture the flag on steroids.’ Teams compete head to head in a quest to control the most territories (aka zowns) on a map. To capture a zown, the player must secure the code from the zown’s black box and text it to the main frame. Players must collaborate, communicate and execute their strategy quickly if they expect to win.
The game utilizes my own custom designed hardware and software, and was an official selection of the 2012 Come Out and Play Festival and the 2012 City of Play Festival.
A spoiled rich girl who wants to be a dancer finds herself caught into between two rival dance groups set to do battle at an underground competition.
